Vice President Biden highlights three T4A.org Board members in speech to NGA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

July 15, 2014

San Francisco, Calif. – Last Friday, Vice President Joe Biden delivered remarks at the National Governors Association Summer Meeting, where all 55 governors and their staffs were in attendance. The Vice President highlighted three T4A.org Board members and the work they are doing as a direct result of the TechTable held with him in April as part of T4A Goes to Washington.

Said T4A.org’s Executive Director Jim Green, “For one piece of work to be highlighted in this type of setting by the Vice President of the U.S. would be a major win. For TWO pieces of work to be highlighted is just about unheard of.”

First, Mr. Biden urged the governors to work with Code.org to adopt computer science in their K-12 schools, pointing out that coding drives economic growth and leads to high-paying jobs. T4A.org Board members Hadi and Ali Partovi founded Code.org with the goal that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn to code, and Ali attended the TechTable with the Vice President. They’ve already gotten 23 states to count CS toward high school graduation. What will this do to increase that number?

Second, he spread the word about Glassdoor, discussing how tech can bridge the gap to help Americans find the right jobs and get back to work. Glassdoor is working with the Office of the Vice President to develop a new interactive job search tool to help Americans everywhere to discover “1) what jobs are needed, 2) where you can get the skills, 3) how you can get help paying for those skills, and 4) where you can use those skills to get a job.” T4A.org Board member Allyson Willoughby, Glassdoor’s General Counsel, attended the TechTable with the Vice President.

About T4A.org

T4A.org is a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, which is creating a network of entrepreneurs committed to redefining the public/private sector relationship. At our TechTables, we bring our Board members together with a “Convening Guest” from the public sector (e.g. member of Congress, U.S. Senator, governor, mayor, thought leader, etc.). It is an educational experience for both sides as the private sector learns about the specific challenges the public sector faces, while the public sector is provided a flow of innovative ideas and solutions from entrepreneurial leaders. Each TechTable ends with a discussion of potential areas of continued partnership and collaboration between our Board and the Convening Guest. We believe that as we develop world-class public/private partnerships, we will help spur creative and collaborative solutions to benefit all Americans.
