Congressman Goodlatte leads TechTable in Seattle

Seattle, WA – October 15, 2014 – Today, will sit down with Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA-6) in Seattle. Congressman Goodlatte currently serves as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and is an active member of the House Committee on Agriculture.  He is the highest-ranking Republican that has sat down with to date.

While the TechTable will be open to all topics as usual, it is likely that the discussion will touch on a variety of issues important to the tech industry and related to the Congressman’s committee roles including privacy and government surveillance, immigration reform, climate change, and the food movement.

Congressman Goodlatte is well known for his interest in and work on technology policy.  He leads a variety of tech related caucuses and currently serves as co-chair of the Congressional Internet Caucus, Chair of the House Republican High-Technology Working Group, and Co-Chairman of the Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus.  He was also the original sponsor of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and in 2013, Congressman Goodlatte “introduced the Innovation Act (H.R. 3309; 113th Congress), a bill aimed at reducing frivolous patent infringement lawsuits by patent trolls.”¹ The bill passed the House last December but the Senate has since refused to move the law forward.

With Congressman Goodlatte’s long tenure in Congress, his knowledge of a variety of tech issues, and the diverse group of tech executives that will bring to the table, this will undoubtedly be a thoughtful and productive conversation.
